Classes We Race

East Coast 12 Metre (EC12): The EC-12 is a restricted one-design class. Fiberglass hulls are made from an international mould, and must be purchased from the Owners Association. Construction materials and dimensions are also restricted, sail dimensions are controlled, and radio functions are limited to three - rudder, main sheet, and jib twitcher. All other rig tuning controls - boom vang, cunningham, outhauls, stay tension, topping lift, etc. replicate those on full size boats, but must be manually set rather than radio controlled. The result is a class of boats with similar speed potential. As with any good restricted design class, racing success is determined by boat handling abilities.

DragonForce65 (DF65):   The DragonForce65 is the fastest growing radio controlled class on the planet.  There are currently thousands of boats sailing and competing throughout the world and the numbers are growing daily.  Its popularity is largely due to it being a very cost effective entry-level class that can still perform as a serious one design class racer.  The boats excel in both light and heavy wind conditions and with the availability of four class-legal rigs it can handle any conditions from light zephyrs to over 25 knots.  DF65s have only one licensed builder world wide with boats and parts available through an extensive network or retail outlets.

DragonFlite95 (DF95):  Following the successful 2013 launch of the DragonForce 65, the design team set their minds to designing a stretched out version of the boat which we now know as the DragonFlite 95.  The additional waterline length, heavier bulb on a slightly shorter, wider keel and a low aspect ratio rig has resulted in a truly well balanced and near perfect handling boat. The DF95 tracks well to windward and is seriously quick downwind showing no desire to nosedive despite it’s slim hull.

The DragonFlite 95 is constructed with composite materials and features cutting edge components not found in similar priced RC yachts. With carbon fibre keel, advanced design bulb, one piece, unstayed, carbon mast, carbon spars and mylar sails this all new racer has the kind performance most other radio yachts can only dream of.  DF95s have only one licensed builder world wide with boats and parts available through an extensive network or retail outlets.

International One Metre:  The International One Metre class in it’s current form was adopted by ISAF (now known as World Sailing) in 1988.  The class rules adopted at that time provided for a common, restricted, inexpensive international class of stable, easily-built designs. The result is the most popular radio yacht class in the world with devotees in over 30 countries. In New Zealand, build numbers exceed 1250 boats with 240 boats currently registered and racing.
